Virtually every bicycle we produce is the result of customer interest and the overall evolution of our line. The Softride beam is at its best on a Co-Motion tandem, and it has proven to be a wonderful way to improve comfort. That translates to more fun, more and greater efficiency, and more miles, too. Our Cappuccino and Sky Capp models have earned us a lot of loyal fans as well as some stellar reviews in bike publications.
We introduced the AL Capp for the 2000 model year, after receiving requests for an aluminum version of our vaunted Cappuccino for several years. Simple as it seems, that's the concept; AL Capp is informal shorthand for "Aluminum Cappuccino". Everyone wants the lightest tandem possible, and the AL Capp's Softride beam will convert a lot of skeptics who have heard that an aluminum tandem might be too stiff for a comfortable ride. The super-rigid and compact rear-end of our Apex frame design, in conjunction with the Softride beam, forms the perfect union of strength and ride-ability.
Custom-drawn Easton 7005 double and triple-butted tubes make up the AL Capp's elegant frame. The top tube is ovalized for extra rigidity at the pivot juncture of the Softride beam, forming an Apex to distribute stress loads evenly. It's an original Co-Motion design you may see copied, but never equaled. Since our introduction of the AL Capp , we haven't been surprised to see other tandem builders offering aluminum tandems with Softride beams, but there's no matching the orginal.
The AL Capp conquers the weight barrier that has kept some tandem enthusiasts from taking the Softride beam seriously. Take another look at the beam, and discover for yourself that the time and effort you'll save not worrying about crossing potholes and railroad tracks will translate into a better time riding together. And that's what tandeming is all about.
